The student must satisfy the eligibility conditions stated for the offering. Open admission removes competitive selection; it does not remove program requirements.

Open Admissions
Eligible to enroll. No competitive selection required.
Open Admissions is used for designated SJIT offerings where eligible students can proceed toward enrollment without competing for admission through an applicant-ranking process.
What Open Means
Direct enrollment is different from automatic access to every SJIT program.
Open Admissions applies only to programs explicitly designated as open. In those offerings, SJIT does not use a competitive selection process to compare applicants against one another. Instead, the relevant question is whether the student satisfies the program’s stated eligibility and enrollment conditions.
That distinction matters. Open admission does not mean that every SJIT offering is available to every person, that prerequisites disappear, or that academic expectations are reduced. It means the program has been designed so that eligible students do not need to win a place through selective review.

Four conditions still matter.
Open Admissions simplifies the admission decision, but students still need to verify that the active offering fits their situation and complete the required enrollment process.

Availability
Enrollment remains subject to the availability, capacity, dates, and access conditions of the active offering.

Enrollment steps
Enrollment begins with the program’s external checkout/payment. After payment, the student completes registration in the SJIT Student Portal, which establishes the student record and academic access.

Academic responsibility
Direct enrollment does not reduce the academic expectations of the program. Students are responsible for completing its coursework and requirements.
What Open Does Not Mean
Accessibility without lowering the academic bar.
Open Admissions describes how a student enters the program. It does not describe how easy the program is to complete.
Not universal admission
Only offerings identified as Open Admissions use this model.
Not prerequisite-free
A program may still define eligibility or preparation requirements.
Not unlimited capacity
Availability and enrollment windows can still limit participation.
Not automatic completion
Students remain responsible for the academic requirements of the offering.
