SJIT seeks to maintain learning, admissions, employment, research, and institutional environments in which people are treated with dignity and evaluated according to relevant academic, professional, and institutional criteria.
SJIT does not support discrimination or harassment on the basis of characteristics unrelated to legitimate academic, professional, safety, or institutional requirements. This commitment applies across educational activities, admissions, employment, research participation, institutional services, and community interactions within SJIT-controlled environments.
The institution intends its non-discrimination practices to include characteristics protected by applicable law and, as an institutional principle, to reject unequal treatment based on race, color, national or ethnic origin, nationality, sex, pregnancy, gender, gender identity or expression, sexual orientation, age, disability, religion or creed, marital or family status, veteran or military status, or other legally protected status.
Non-discrimination does not prevent SJIT from applying legitimate academic, admissions, conduct, safety, technical, eligibility, or professional requirements. Programs may have different prerequisites or evaluation criteria when those distinctions are relevant to the purpose and demands of the offering.
Harassment that creates an intimidating, hostile, or abusive institutional environment is inconsistent with this commitment. Retaliation against a person for raising a good-faith concern, participating in a review, or requesting appropriate consideration is also inconsistent with SJIT expectations.
A person who believes an SJIT-controlled activity has involved discrimination, harassment, or retaliation may raise the concern with the institution through web-info@sanjose.institute. Reports should include enough information for the institution to understand the issue and determine an appropriate review path.
SJIT may review concerns, request additional information, preserve relevant records, take interim measures where appropriate, and determine institutional action based on the circumstances. The exact process may vary depending on the relationship involved, applicable requirements, and the seriousness of the concern.
